Physical Media Works

Here are a few of the drawing and sketches I have done through various classes and in my free time.  Some are exercises done in-class, such as opposite hand drawings, 60 second sketches, and single-line drawings.  A few life drawing works are included as well, sketched from live models.

Play Crack the Sky

Media:  Ink on Paper.

Elapsed Time:  15 hours.

This image is created from the written lyrics of many songs and musings, eventually creating the image of a lighthouse on cliff's edge during a driving storm.  It is envisioned as the literal translation of the metaphorical lyrical content contained within the song "Play Crack the Sky" by the band Brand New.

Self Portrait.

Media:  Pencil on Paper.

Elapsed Time:  3 hours.

Always an interesting exercise, to draw yourself.  This was drawn with medium weight drawing pencils while looking at myself in the mirror.  The assignment called for strictly gray and white, with no gradient shading allowed.

Self Portrait 2

Media: Pencil on Paper.

Elapsed Time: 2.5 hours.

Another self portrait, this one an outline drawing with no shading.

Negative Portrait

Media: Chalk on Black Paper.

Elapsed Time: 1 hour.

A portrait drawn using highlights to create an image.

Living Room

Media: Pencil on Paper.

Elapsed Time: 2 hours.

Single line perspective drawing of my former living room.  The idea was to express everything in pure line form, without shawdow or shading.  Single vanishing point perspective.

Clippers

Media: Ink on Heavy Drawing Paper.

Elapsed Time: 2.5 hours.

An exercise in repetition.  Using negative space and a simple household object (nail clippers) to create a geometric star.

Seated Nude

Media: Pencil on Paper.

Elapsed Time: 5 minutes.

Live life drawing exercise of male model.  The objective was to capture the subject's form as an outline.

Life Drawing

Media: Pencil on Paper.

Elapsed Time: 1 minute.

Exercise in speed.  A minute long attempt at capturing an entire scene in a limited amount of time, with correct body proportions and as much detail as possible.
